Seiichi Hishikawa

Seiichi Hishikawa was born in Tokyo in 1969. He joined CBS Sony group (presently Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc.), where he was initially assigned to the general affairs department, administrative section, and then to the producers’ office. Hishikawa then went on loan to the advertising department at Sony Corp., and was appointed as an assistant producer where he took charge of various events and exhibitions held at Sony Building Ginza. In 1991, Hishikawa went to America where his area of specialization shifted from the music industry to the image industry. Hishikawa concurrently served as a postproduction editor as well as a production director of image production. He played an active part in editing more than 100 music videos and commercials as an editing engineer. Upon his return to Japan in 1993, he began promoting himself as a freelance image writer, directing a number of space images as an image staff for exhibitions organized by artists such as Nam June Paik, a modern artist, as well as Emi Wada, a costume designer for Akira Kurosawa’s movies. In 1995, Hishikawa held a three-men exhibition called “Mold” with Mr. Koji Hamai, et al. In 1996, at the request of Mr. Tokujin Yoshioka, Hishikawa designed projected images to be used at ISSEY MIYAKE Aoyama headquarters, which was introduced by various media, receiving much attention and acclaim. On the other hand, with the Internet boom of the time, Hishikawa jointly launched a technological experiment website with renowned companies such as Sony and NEC, and began distributing original works on the website. In 1997, he established Drawing and Manual Incorporated with Mr. Kenmei Nagaoka and other members as a combined activity base for graphic design and images. In the same year, he held a motion graphics exhibition at the Roppongi Axis Gallery, which heralded the motion graphic movement. This marked a successful milestone for Hishikawa as an image composition director. Since then, motion graphics exhibitions have been held in 1998, 1999, and 2000, attracting a total of 30,000 visitors. Following the success of the motion graphics exhibitions, a number of images and websites have been released which had a profound impact due to their effective use of motion graphics expressions. To date, Hishikawa has designed more than 50 motion logos for companies. In 2003, he went on to establish Standard Series as a design studio of combined media. Currently, as a representative of Standard Series, he is actively involved in areas of image designing, web designing, graphic designing, brand designing, and interaction designing, etc. In 2008, Hishikawa assumed the position of Professor for the Department of Science of design at Musashino Art University. In the beginning of 2009, he reestablished Drawing and Manual Incorporated with Mr. Kenmei Nagaoka, where he currently holds the position of President and Representative Director , D&DEPARTMENT Inc. Executive Creative Director.
